The Rough Rider is modelled after an American desert Racer. Malcolm Smith & Bud Feldkamp ran the Funco made desert racer you see below, and they did it successfully for many years. Although the Tamiya model below is painted red, there is little doubt that the below real car stood model for the Rough Rider, because Tamiya included stickers/decals to dress up the Rough Rider like the real thing. .
