Ok, this is hard to believe, but the source is Tamiya!. The Bigwig is
inspired by a real-life car!
The below pictures are from the famous Pikes Peak hill climb race in USA.
And as usual Tamiya has looked to USA when making models, it is a fairly
big market...

OK, it is
not 100%, but this is what the special invited designer, Takuya Yura, was
inspired by when designing the 10th anniversary RC car from Tamiya in
1986.

Here is
another one. Does not have the air intake scoop, but the same wing shaped
body.
These cars drove in the Open Wheels class. Typically 2WD
chassis with a beast of an V8 in the back.
