STATUS December 2006:
After a very long restoration process, my first Sand Scorcher is finished. As you can see, I made it according to Box Art, in the classic white and blue colours. The Sand Scorcher is "the" Icon of the old RC model, no matter what brand. Tamiya did everything right, making it strong and durable (for the time) and gave it the iconic looks of the Beetle.
Nearly all parts are restored old ones, but the body-chrome and wheels are new. I have also used some repro parts, all lenses, the license plates, the exhaust stinger and the decals. The all red rear lenses are actually according to the manual. I bet Tamiya looked at US spec beetles, they came with all read lenses. The white lettering on the tyre sidewalls was not that difficult to do when I got started. All aluminium parts on the chassis has been bead blasted to get that nice new look. and as usual I try to build the models as close to "ready to run" as possible. This one has all gear installed, but have of course not been run...
