That's just for the picture, I was fiddling around with the tension. ;)
Ran it a lot softer - with #600 oil. Very smooth...

Ooooold picture by now...

A bit too smooth, really...
I noticed that for the real slow driving you need a hard setting to optimise ground clearance...
The spacers I'm gonna use to shorten the shocks are up to original Tamiya Humvee spec btw :

:silly:

Some nice TRF oil seals to top it off.

I've been looking around for different springs. Black'll look a lot better too...
But they're not that easy to find. Usually all coloury stuff.

600? Default (yellow) is 400. I'm using 200. An ex Ralley rc driver told me that and its nice. Only at jumps you need heavy oil.
I'm btw also thinking about changing body of the MR, 'cause i don't wanna jump again with it.

maybe you can color them black, think there is this 'gun' liquid which they use to darken the metal.

600?

It's the stuff I got, not considered that hard though.
Only in vintage terms but the definition shifted - it is now the middle one of the medium kind.
Not sure why that change took place...

So what are you going to run it with then?

That would be an idea, wb. I'll have a google around...
Too bad the springs are not made of aluminium, I could have another go at anodising stuff.

I didn't have a clue about that. :P ;)

Well, my intended combo of piston and spacer ain't gonna work...
It is disturbing the flow of the fluid up to a point where the shaft doesn't really want to move anymore.
Already went from a two-hole piston to one that has three, but to no avail.
Think I'm gonna have to make bigger holes or find a narrower spacer...
I have a couple that are made of brass but I feel I might damage the inside of the cylinder with those.

Wow, three days of fiddling around making spacers and adjusting the piston. :S
Not understanding at all why the shaft suddenly won't move anymore as soon as I put the cap on.
Thinking I am creating a vacuum at the bottom of the cylinder somehow...
And then I realise I switched the caps with the 60mm dampers I had on the car before.
These are not an exact match - they screw on a tiny bit more, making for the oil seal to not have room to work properly.
Not my brightest moment.

Got a new mod in mind... something to make the chassis more rigid. A connection rod between the gearboxes.
Found the exact spot where it would work on the front by just drilling a broken one (from the bottom) :

That'll make a straight line to the hole where the MSC mount used to be...

How typical for a DF-01 gearbox :
