Other particularities

Diameter (D) is measured to the outer pin/spike/etc. Rim diameter as shown below and width also to the outer edges.

Here's a question for you clever guys. The Super Hornet front rims and tires are 80mm/60mm/20mm. The tires say "Super Gripper Racing" on them. What are the modern replacements? I would like to see if I can get new tires, even if y=they are not true to the period of the Super Hornet.

Both Tamiya USA and Towerhobbies say the part number is 53059.


This is a Pair of Wide Studded Spike Tires For Tamiya Vehicles.

FEATURES: Features studded spikes for optimum traction in loose dirt.


INCLUDES: Includes two spiked buggy tires.


REQUIRES: Requires a two inch rim.


SPECS: 1-1/2"x2"(38mmx50mm)


COMMENTS: These tires will fit the following Tamiya off-road buggies:
Dirt Thrasher- front and rear tires
Manta Ray- front and rear tires
Mad Fighter- rear tires only

No technical info on the fronts though.

I think the rear tyres (Manta Ray) are the correct (official) spare part.
For the front the closest match would be Tamiya 9805474 (Super Hornet) - or possible the 9805617 for the Dyna Storm.
These are both 82mm diameter and 20mm wide - plus they both have spikes.

The front tyres you linked to are 79mm (D) and 26mm (W).
Normally for a DT-02 but I think you'd probably manage to fit these on the rim also.

I rewrote the thread with the parameters a bit different.
The specs on the rims could be worthwhile info.
