Very nice. Seen decals, it is not a rere.

Judging by the decals it is an original, the rere had fake sponsorship decals

I suppose it is also possible that it is a re-re with MCI decals (which still show the original sponsors). The mechanical speed controller strongly suggests original though.

It's a Grasshopper from the 80's. Not sure the very first batch, though. I can see the spindles there on the front uprights, but there is also a white resistor plate. I believe the first ones were black? Some other things that can help is the motor endbell (black plastic early, white plastic later but still 80's), the hole for the humpback battery on the chassis, and if it is one of the very first Grashoppers the tub would have to say OFF-ROADER front. I love the buggy. I think it was a VERY nice find!

The dirt, wear & aging of the unpainted plastic body all appear to be consistent with a lightly used, reasonably well cared for original

Now that it seems an original I'm not sure what to do with it. Just clean it up. Replace the electronics and drive it. Or shelf it. I really don't like shelf queens. Resell it?

Put modern electronic inside, buy a new rere body and run it. And keep the original body for the shelf
