The Tamiya Blackfoot has always been one of my favourites; it holds so many great memories for me. Never thought I'd get an opportunity to buy one so soon, as auction prices always seem to be out of my reach.
However, last week I was taking a walk in the park and there were a couple of people racing around with Traxxas Xmaxx's. It's the first time I've ever been near the new breed of RC cars and they're incredibly quick compared to my recollection of the old school vehicles. Very impressive indeed. Long story short, I got chatting to a couple of guys who were also watching the trucks and the conversation soon turned nostalgic and we reminisced about 80's era. During that discussion it transpired that one of the gentleman had an original Tamiya Blackfoot which was collecting dust in his parents garage, but had also been well used during its time and would require considerable restoration. I enquired if the truck was for sale and was invited to take a look and make an offer. Yesterday a deal was struck and I now have a vintage Blackfoot. The diff definitely needs stripping down and investigating, as there is detectable friction and a grinding noise coming from it. The body has also sustained some rather extensive damage, but the breaks are very clean and shouldn't be too hard to fix. But it's a dirty old vintage with lots of history and character. What more can you want? lol. |

Thanks Stingray The cracks to the shell align perfectly so I'm hoping it can be restored with minimal distortion. But that's probably just the tip of the ice berg compared to what's hiding underneath. I anticipate many problems lol.
