Hi,
Started my vintage Blackfoot restoration. Disassembled it yesterday and left everything to soak over night. This morning I've finished off degreasing the gearbox components and a few other parts (That stuff is nightmare to remove). Then cleaning and polishing the plastics. Everything is now individually bagged up and ready for reassembly when a couple of spares arrive next week. This is definitely going to be a light runner when the better weather arrives and I only plan to use a 540 silver can as its power plant, as I've read the gearboxes are easily stressed on this model. With that in mind, can I use Copper grease during my reassembly or should I get the recommended Tamiya product? It's just that I have a new tub of Copper grease immediately available for use. And just out of interest (It's far too expensive for serious consideration) does the MIP ball diff kit act as a direct replacement in vintage models? Also, are ultrasonic cleaners an improvement over conventional methods for removing grease and dirt? Thanks. |
