Poebe, the big scale 1/12 static kit is possibly your best bet for the body.
For one thing it will keep it authentic because that’s what Tamiya would have used originally and secondly it’s reasonably cheap especially compared to getting an original rc body set.

in between eating and drinking, I had a good hobby, men!

to get the rear wheels on the axle I really had to go from 7 to 9mm hex.
after some hours of searching and in the bins and on google I came to a solution!

it fits well and works too!

In the meantime I also placed the motor and made a steering linkage as I think it was on the car

what are your thoughts on this?

the wheels are still being replaced,
I have just bought rims of the 1966 Honda RA273 1/12 from America and I only want to make these fit because there was no rc car before the 58001.
then the f1 and f2 rims have not yet existed. these parts must have come from a 1/12 bigscale series from before 1976.
Now a few more rubber tires i am on the hunt for

this project will cost me money and a lot of time!
It gives me a lot of satisfaction! I learn a lot from it

That day, Fumito Taki was driving a car but Mr Tamiya was surprised not to hear the usual sound of the engine, so he asked for a closer look to this custom made model. Suprise: the body was an 1/12th scale Formula 1 static model from the Big Scale series and the chassis featured an electric motor powered by dry cells. Right away, Mr Tamiya knew he got the idea.So Fumito Taki naturally got assigned to transform the static Porsche 934 into an electric-powered radio-controlled model in order to reuse and recoup the mold cost. At that time, a gas-powered radio-controlled car was a sales hit when it sold about 6.000 units a year: the kit RA1201 hit the 100.000 unit barrier before the end of its first year.

Now try to find out what model it was.
when I enlarge the picture it looks like I see a 6 spoke rim on the front right which is mounted inside out

by coincidence I was able to score these rims on ebay for 7 dollars

After reading this story, something tells me it must be a honda
The Honda RA273, in the large scale of 1:12.
www.motorsportm...ood-dreams

unfortunately I have some doubts because this car seems to fit the chassis much better

I don't remind how I built the rims on my honda. The offset looks cohérent with your idea

Great work Poebe :) Innovative problem solving, I love it :)
If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem mate :)

It's an interesting point.
Are you creating the car that was made that inspired Tamiya to move into RC ??
I guess that proto type chassis was built with the 934 in mind.
That's a bit of a conundrum ???
