Playing with my USB microscope ... 4 years 8 months ago #55829

I got given a (fairly cheap) USB microscope a few years ago, it's not the sort of thing that gets used that often, but sometimes it's the only thing that will do a particular task.

Take today - I was getting distortion on one of my turntables so cleaned the stylus by blowing on it, using a carbon fibre brush, then using the same brush with a stylus cleaning solution ... no improvement. I wanted to check that wear wasn't the problem (which would have been disappointing with only 150 hours or so on that stylus) ... just look at the clag & fibres on the tip & the debris on the front of the holder... this was all invisible to the naked eye, but no wonder it sounded like cak.

Second pic is after cleaning with straight IPA & a tiny paintbrush. - no wear :)

The stand/holder part of the kit is awful, BTW...

Those images are quite impressive, all considered.

Wow, cool things are cool.

And also congrats on using a turntable for over 150 hours in 2019.
