Lol. Never heard that tribute song before...

While I wait on funds for this project I wanted to see if I could make a VW front beam from bits I have....

Mk1...
Threaded pipes, leaf spring shacles, some rod ends and Lunchbox front uprights.
Right idea, but the scrub radius was horrendus (not really important as it will be static, anyway..), and needs a really long 12mm hex for the wheels.

Mk2...
Chopped up some WR02CB parts (green) as I needed to space the tubes further apart due changing the uprights.
Uprights are M05RA, some TLT wheelaxles. shorter tubes and assorted spacers and washers....
Now tuning point is closer to the wheel and the rod ends to closer to the wheel is now offset rodends to point the uprights a bit more out to give cleaance for the wheels while turning.

Also have a SRB front beam, but it is missing parts. too wide, too high to name a few...

Did also some CAD, cardboard aided design that is, of the chassis legs if I deside to build a styrene chassis.

Split screens are really unibody cars, but several has taken the chassis legs apart when rebuilding a rotten one..

But there is very little info of lengt and width, thickness, arches, where they bends etc regarding the chassis structure.
So most must be made by trail and error by me if I give it a go.
I do plan to do a full styrene/3d print of both T1 and T3 (Vanagon in US) in the future, so this is more of an exercise for me...

The T3 build has been a dream build for me since 2009 ish, and I did in fact make 1:8.5 scale drawings, which I still have.
Recently I have come in contact with someone that make custom T1.T2 and T3 in 1:10 and 1:8 scale, but that's another story....

Those HPI "Vintage" rims are still available here:  hobbiesdirect.c...-2Pcs-3821
They have some black in-stock, but no chrome.  Was originally considering them for my Chev.

One shop here in Norway has the same as mine has one pair of those in stock.
If I can't find some used ones, I will buy those.

Just for fun I built some dampers.
7mm aluminium tube with 0.45 wall. two small rod ends, cap bolt cut down and spacer fo the bottom of the damper.
55mm long and easly make them 5mm shorter (29mm body)
By sleeving the bottom part and turn the damper up side down, I could make the full bodies damper as on real cars.

Also bought paint today and some new blades so I can start on the body (too hot atm)

More wheel mayhem

When I picked up my 3d printer yesterday, my mate had only done 3 wheels for me as he was out of filament.
He is finished now with the last wheel that I will collect later this week (30 min drive).
Wheels are Porsche Fuchs in M chassis size and was created by VeloRex on cults3d.

But my word the supports took ages to remove..

Still thinks M chassis wheels and tires are too small for this body.

That's more like it!

M chassis tires vs those barrel wheels. They are not a lot bigger really

Rear is a little bigger

I like this. As said earlier, Fuchs wheels is one of my favorite wheels for VW and Porsche.

Been 30 degrees outside and 28 degrees inside today so it has been a bit hot working.
No wind made almost no difference with doors and windows open. Was worse with the closed if anyone wonder. One of the reasons I don't like new buildings on days like these.

Might cut the body tomorrow....

Today I did cut the body and test fitted the bumpers.

And the front lip that will become front spoler seems to be just the right amount as the frontspoiler on my dads campervan

Vs my dads campervan

Due a hump in the mould, this part had to be cut out.
I will simply later on glue on a strip of thin aluminium to make the spoiler complete.

Was "only" 29 degrees today, and my forehead became a waterfall in the end so I had to cut the hobby time short.

Yesterday I'm going to pick up my last Fuchs wheel and a roll of 3d filament.
Might do some 3d printing during the weekend after I have cleaned out the hotend and adjusted the bed.

Those wheels remind me of the old Rostyles
