Upon more research, I found that they called the Pajero J Tops.

Like this:

And this is another guy on the RCcrawler forum's J top:

As you can see in the first pic, the tailgate stays the same and on the Pajero. It opens sideways, not from top to bottom like most pick-ups:

Few updates:

Just posted a thread on how to make your own LSD (limited slip diff):
www.tamiyabase....id=78#8056

And the post man dropped off another part of my Pajero build:

They are RC4WD Mud slingers, and I found them at a local hobby store of all places. They will most certainly help with the grip... :woohoo:

Update:

Had a chance to do some work on the Pajero. Satrting with repairing the front of the chassis, where the "brick" was removed. (the "brick" is the front bulkhead of the chassis - called this by CC-01 owners because of it hitting anything you try to ride over.)

Some of my goodies arrived today:

A cheap rip off of the light control unit. Has brake, park flashing indicators, main beam, and reverse light.

HPI gear reduction unit

Lipo batteries x2

UBEC 5v/5a

Now, on with the build.

Mating up the HPI gear reduction unit with the Novak 55 turn crawler motor:
Step 1:

Mount backplate to motor.

Step 2:

Install gears

Step 3:

Close case and mount motor mount.

More to follow...

Just a quick speed calculation for the GRU:

7.4:1
Novak 55 turn speed = 8500 RPM output shaft speed = 1148.64 RPM
Johnson 4 hole speed = 16000 RPM output shaft speed = 2162.4 RPM

She's going to be slow. I might have to install the johnson 4 hole...

Motor and GRU installed in the chassis:

And all the other goodies:

Bought this hollow aluminium tube for the grill:

Hopefully I can get some primer on this thing tomorrow...

Very promising. :y:
LB, could you do me a favour and measure how wide the opening in the front arm is where the C-hub is fitted?

You talking about the space the hub fits in? That's 27mm

Sorry, I should have been clearer. I meant the width of the opening at the end of the lower suspension arm.
Which would be the same as the width of the underside of the C-hub.
