Super Blackfoot brushless downgrade.. 3 years 10 months ago #60276

Hey there. I got this super Blackfoot a few months knowing that it was making noise from the gearbox. All I knew about it was that it was brushless upgraded. After getting it and realizing that not only did it need new gears, it needed shock towers, uprights, and few other things to get her back on the road. Well after some cash spend and some waiting around for parts I got everything back together and ready to rock. Well that lasted less than one battery as the new gears gave out under that brushless power. Now I’m on the hunt for a new gear set and a motor downgrade. I’d like to stick with brushless for the runtime efficiency but I don’t know a lot about brushless. Is there something less powerful out there that would work?

5200kv is a bit quick motor and most likely too brutal for that gearbox.

KV rating is 5200rpm pr volt.
Think a 3600kv or therabout is more suitable.

Are you running 2s or 3s lipo or a NiMh battery?

I see I’ll look into it. I’m using a 2s lipo

That's really too big for a vintage orv. On some bl esc you can trim the power etc. Like ezrun.

You aren’t kidding. This thing is very hard to control, impossible to punch the throttle at anything below 20mph without flipping it. The brand new gears were toast after about 3 reverse braking pulls at high speed.

With a modern battery you will get a very long run time even with a brushed motor. I wouldn't use any kind of brushless in a King Blackfoot. Even a lower speed motor has too much torque. A Tamiya Super Stock BZ is at the edge (and a good match).
