Hornet’s new life 4 years 11 months ago #55134

Picked up a Hornet for a steal. I’ve been looking out for an original release for ages.
Tub has No stress marks or cracks.
Wheels and tires - shot.
Rear shocks - still ok!
Rear suspension mounts - shot.
Gearbox - perfect except for bearings.
Front suspension - perfect.
Battery cover - actually exists!
Body - shame.

I cleaned it out and started assembling it today.
For now I’m just ordering the D-Parts tree and bearings to finish assembly of the chassis.

The rest will be in the country later in the year because of our slack supplier.

I’ll fit a TEU-105 I think. Might do a Tamiya servo too. Don’t know about a motor yet. It came with a white plastic back Johnson.

Regarding the battery cover. How do I go about getting it to stay on there without modifying beyond the cars cool looks. Don’t want my battery getting dragged around.
And wats your opinions on a pivot on the gearbox?

It looks fine. The motor was the first upgrade for a silvercan. Or stock on some rc like the lunch or clod.

Ampro Engineering do sells a adapter that hold the battery in place.
You have to go to the Shapeways store to buy it, link in his video

Having a hard time finding the bearings. Cant believe the LHS systems here. Anycase. They are ordered and should have them next week sometime.

Finally got round to pick up the bearings in the week. Will fit them tomorrow.
Also took delivery of a cheapo Aliexpress radio. Gave it a test run and it seems good. Might order some more.

Gearbox assembled with a centre pivot. Motor might get swopped out for a sport tuned still.
