Ok, ive been waiting the most tense 2 weeks of my life for this to turn up. Its just how i expected which is a nice surprise!
I will have a million questions as although I've restored many tamiya this will be the first early pan car.
Ive had a few before, long since sold, but i did nothing with them.
Always wanted a lp500s and now I've got one!!

So, initial assessment, it looks good! Hardly run by the looks of it.
One broken front knuckle, rear diff gear looks warped but it has a spare by the looks of it.
New decals, few body details missing. Rear tyres are soft, fronts arent but good for display. Manual is missing back page which is annoying. Radio manual isnt for the installed radio gear. Battery will no doubt be toast. Maybe ill open it and replace the cells.

i cant use the radio gear in the uk even if i had a tx. Is it collectable like early acoms?

Looks like i need 1 front knuckle, a battery holder, one mirror, a wiper, 1 exhaust and a rear number plate.

Looking forward to this!

As i say, i want to run this at least once. A friend has a big workshop with a painted concrete floor. That will do.
What is my best option for tyres though?
I can either track down some 58005 wheels and rubber tyres, get foam fronts and some new rears, or get some old wheels and try and fit some new foams rather than nos vintage tamiya foams.
Ive never driven one of these so i dont really know whats best. No point spending fortunes on new diplo, the ones on it are ok for shelf use.

Hi, nice purchase.
That looks in lovely condition.
Enjoy restoring that.
I’m looking forward to watching what you do with it.

I built one of these from just picking up bits and pieces in the mid 80’s. I bought a brand new body set.
I guess I sold it on to buy something else.

Lovely looking car.

Thanks. Plan is to make it as perfect as i can.
Not super keep on the chrome wing on these. The real cars is black (its also called lp500r). Ill see how it cleans up. If it lets it down, i may paint it.

Any tips on removing the glued in pieces?
There not done very well and i want to get it apart for painting.
Im obviously super cautious of breaking anything though, especially the windows as they are intact!
First thought is soak in warm water.
I assume its styrene cement?

Hi,
Someone has got a wiper on eBay along with some tired rear lights.
Tony’s Tamiya Parts has got a tree with chromed exhaust ends.
Not original, but you could paint them ?!?
Or keep them bling !
