Looks good so far.
Some old paint can be really stubborn.

Are you just restoring it, or converting it to rc too?

Strictly a repaint ... a dump truck of some description is on my "like to do" list, but I think it would have to be one with a more conventional truck cab, and longer bucket on a 6 wheel chassis :)

Awesome!

A 6x6 Clod maybe?

TBH I was thinking more along the lines of modifying a Pumkin Lowrider ...

most of the bits ready for assembly; all steel bits have been media blasted, scrubbed, dried, given a shot od etch primer, followed by white primer for the yellow bits (grey for the chassis), Hycote AA Van Yellow (or gloss black as appropriate), followed by clear. All the plastic & rubber bits have been ultrasonically cleaned, the cab "glass" has had 2000 grit wet & dry + all 3 Novus polish steps.

Cab reassembled with repro decals:

Tipper & front grille rivest destroyed in dismantling, so replaced with M5 stainless fasteners:

Axles (one shown next to the originals that got destroyed in dismantling thanks to a combination of inexperience and bad/inadequte internet advice) are aluminium rod + new caps:

All done, reassembly was very quick. Colour is "wrong" according to official sources, but is a pretty good match for my original one, which was always inexplicably darker than other Tonkas of the time.

TBH this has mostly felt like a chore, and I've got no interest in displaying it indoors ... the only "fun" bits were when it started coming together towards the end, and the final assembly. Small orange pickup was done in tandem.

It’s like a brilliant bit of recycling / restoration.
Great job, I can’t think many people would consider doing this.
Nice work Jonny.

Great work, Jonny!
I remember seeing one of these many, many years ago. Never owned one myself.
