I am new to this group and a total newbie.
I have built many model ships incl the Santa Ana spanish warship, took me 4 years. Also built a full working scale Minnie tractor engine which works with steam. Just taken charge to sort out a Smit NV tugboat. All in reasonable condition, a few repairs to the mast etc but is in good shape. Estimated age of the model 20 years. Ok, I am new to R/C. It runs with a 12V 7a/H battery, I am replacing, should arrive this week. The original battery would not take any charge, its a sealed acid type. The battery has a direct link to the 2 prop motors and then into a M$ sonic marine box. This box ?? has heat sink vanes and a SET button. 1 (3) wire ribbon cable goes from this box to the Acoms 2 channel receiver.Plug Ch2. This receiver also has a 3 ribbon cable to the steering servo. There is a 3 rd plug socket for BATT. Question, as I do not think anything is missing, do I need to supply power to the receiver, or does power come from the BOX to make the receiver alive. I see some need a 4 x AA batteries and a on/off switch. I do not want to power up and have things go wrong. The hand set is a Acoms Techniplus 2 ch. What do the 2 switches marked R N do. Sorry again for asking silly questions. John Lindo Spain |

Welcome John,
You need to connect the 4cells to receiver. A receiver works under 4,8 to 6V.

Many thanks. I have a battery pack holder and switch on order, as a back up if the receiver does not see voltage from the ELS? Seems a mystery that all the bits were in place but not battery holder. I will keep you informed.when the new battery arrives. Thanks John |

Your techniplus should have bec system but if the power source send more than 6V, il could burn the receiver. The bes t if you have a doubt, put the batt holder on the receiver.

Thanks
Reading up a "bit", that would mean cutting the red wire in the 3 wire ribbon from the BEC " what does that mean, life is full of acronyms. Then connecting up the 4 x AA box to the vacant plug hole.?? John |

No! Don't touch to servos wires. BEC = battery eliminator circuit. When you use a ESC or classic MSC (variators), the bec system included in the receiver avoid the use of a dedied battery. But you, from what I understoud, you use a 12V batt directly. So you need another batt to avoid to burn the receiver. If you had a gp system, you need a battery for the receiver. You maybe have a too high voltage with a 12V batt.

No, the battery goes first to the MSC (BEC) also paired off the the 2 x motors.
I will send some photos Best send me your ( if possible your email address), I can send direct a bunch of photos. I truly believe we are on the home run, looks like the BATT female in the receiver has never had a plug into it, also when I received the boat, there was no 4 x AA battery pack or switch. Best regards John Spain

Depending on how this M sonic marine ESC works or does it job you may not need an extra receiver battery. If it has a BEC it probably feeds the receiver with 5/6 volts. Photos and a model or type number and some Google or forum experts will probably sort that out
