Low cost paint remover 11 years 5 months ago #15960

B) Hi guys,
I found a new remover.
Yesterday when I rebuilt my old lunchy, I cleaned screws and I wanted to clean body supports.
I put themes with screws in CILLIT BANG; I discovered nickel screws and pure white supports.
New test today on the wheeles I painted in OD. Result very efficient :y:

Must be pretty acidic. I know it's almost nasty stuff. :S

BANG! ... and the paint is gone :silly:

@ Edou - "javel" = Fr. for bleach, so chlorine or peroxide; = very alkaline ... I'm thinking this variety is not simply "avec javel" as that would probably neutralise the acids in the regular variety & leave perfumed water , but a completely different formulation ...

I wonder how ABS bodies react with Cillit Bang????
I might try it on older rims in first place...

Thanks for the translation of javel, Jon. :)
I had not looked it up but was thinking more of a category like lavender...
Couldn't be acidic then. But still quite agressive nonetheless.
And should work on alloy too.

It has real bleach odor and a small white coat when it dry. For the abs reaction, it is nothing on. These rims are 25 years old and it was no reaction. It is really a good and fast product. Maybe will it be more efficient in a ziploc handibag. Someone can test it on lexan?

Cillit Bang is acid based (Keep meaning to find out which one) & as Edou said, is verging on being quite dangerous stuff. No hypochlorite (Bleach) in it, & mixing it with bleach is likely to give toxic chlorine fumes.

Hypo goes for most materials (To do with the highly reactive free-chlorine in it). Polyethylene will stand the stuff for a little while, but if you're making chemical tanks to contain it long-term, they have to be uPVC-lined.

I usually use Cillit for cleaning metal bits eg SRB UJs - same as Coke or vinegar, but loads quicker (10-20 minutes vs overnight for vinegar). Keep meaning to try some on aluminium as I suspect it would be hilarious! (Or maybe some lithium, that should go in an excitingly dangerous fashion...)

Don't much fancy the idea of stripping paint off ABS bodies with it though, you certainly don't use ABS pipework with acids in industry, or Hypo or caustic for that matter. It's probably another one of those things that looks ok now but will disintegrate in time (Like my Mu body which I suspect had been stripped with oven cleaner - the ABS has gone brittle/powdery)
