I think it is only the position of the side bars that is different and I think they can be moved (on the Marui kit). I have seen pictures of the CJ-7 with the bars at the top and in the middle.
If the Tamiya ones cannot be moved to the top, then it doesn't matter. I am sure it will be close enough.

The marui doesn't be positioned on the top. from remind. side bars are moulded.

I am trying to find a chassis for mine but with no luck yet.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem mate :)

:( Marui is more and more expensive. I am looking for a coors melling nascar one and I too desapointed when I see the price of a good condition one. A nib one on zebay is for up to 700€.

have you thought of making your own chassis for it? Granted its not original. This is what I've ended up doing for the second of two big bears I am slowly restoring.

cheers Jonny. Bullfrog, I cut the chassis in 2 mm polystyrene sheet as its cuts like butter on my cheap cnc machine, once I've got the design right I'll cnc it in aluminium, happy to share plans as well. I also intend on machining the axles about 1 mm so I can insert ball bearings as I want this one to be a runner.

What size is the bearings that you need, without machining the axles ?

bearings are: 4 mm thick, 11 mm outside, 7 mm inside. I based the idea of machining the axles to 5 mm on this mod I found:
bigbear.mirage-...com/Axles/

cheers
