Now a short intermezzo concerning blue news of the highest importance!

Sometimes you have to buy your Rc stuff a little in the blind because the specs are not always that clear.
Have some rims that don't really match for example that are a result of this.

But now the gamble has paid off beautifully.
I lost a front suspension king pin and ordered some blue alloy ones.
The ad said a different size from what it should be but I decided to order them anyway.
I received a bag for a Tamiya M chassis and one for a HPI :

But they fit perfectly and look gorceous :

How could I ever get used to regular king pins again?

A very unexpected result. Worth another shot of the TA01 chassis :

Ordering them really paid off. And although I have a spare bag, I used some metal bond this time...

I think it does improve performance (power) of the motor.
The dust from the brushes - a lot with a new motor - will attach itself to the inside, giving sparks and resistance.
Also you'd have the full power of the motor available direct from the start.
I could read from the "motor management" (how cool is this charger?) that it needed 2 amps more at the beginning.
Runs much more smoothly (by hand) than before.

The process I think will only be usefull with a rebuildable motor with good quality brushes.
I ran an Ansmann Clash 23 on my Hopper. It's a nice motor but the brushes are like butter.
It produces a cloud of dust this way so an under water run in won't have much of an effect then.
Rebuidable is better because you can then dry it out better and oil the bearings a bit.

I don't think a short run in on the table has much effect.
Probably still usefull to run it under water.
Most guys do the process 5-10 minutes (me too) and that is quite a while when you're waiting on it...

The silver brushes (two pair) that I have spare :

And a crappy (unlit) picture after the run in :

But the result is visible... :)

So I'd say - Falcon#5 - go for it. It's a cool science experiment.

I think I'll give it a go. B)

The motor is fitted to a Falcon project, but I need to remove the motor when I fit a steel pinion. So I'll water bed(? ) the brushes then.

I think it is common to do it to sealed (un-rebuildable) motors too.
Like on Silver Cans in Stock class racing.

I have an air compressor to blow the water out afterwards, and the bearings can be oiled from the ends.

Those kingpins look sweet as! B)

The chassis looks too good to get dirty now!

True that it's not necessary it's rebuidable.
I used a hair dryer on the openings of the motor first. After that I decided to open it anyway...

These gorceous little king pins really were one of the most unexpected results of the build.
And the best thing to clean the chassis would likely be if you send me your compressor! ;)
But seriously - I'd love to have one so I'll also be able to airbrush with it...

Air compressors are quite cheap here now.

I'm using my mates at the moment.
Can get them for under $100.
They're fine for blowing things down, and would definately be suitable for air brushing.
Doesn't have the capacity for air tools which require large volumes of air to run though.

I have a large compressor, but trips the circuit breakers because it draws so much current!
Need to rewire the shed.

Sounds like a very modern shed! ;)
And for about 70 euro (100 dollars at the moment) you can get the Revell airbrush starter pack with basic compressor.
That money buys you an awesome Tx/Rx also - so that's a dilemma...

But here's a build thread update :

Dirt Hawgs in the house! :woohoo:

Too bad I murdered the rims earlier instead of making them ready for the tyres...

Go the airbrush kit.
You already have radio gear! :P

Shame about the rims, I'd like to see those tyres fitted up.

I think they'd probably look even better on silver rims...
But I have to provide rubber (and black rims) for the Humvee option first.
They took a while and didn't come cheap - them Dirt Hawgs.
The States are the place to be for tyres so they cost me a rib.

I'm afraid either choice will have to wait a while.
There's a few (last) items still coming in for this build and then that's it for now.
But these last hop ups are
