the width of the wheel is 35mm.
i managed to pick up a cheap thundershot the other day mainly for the wheels & tires. the tires looked great, barely any wear on them. sadly when it arrived the tires were badly perished & splitting on the sides. it did have lots of good spare parts on it & also a sports tuned tamiya motor as well as some old yellow mini cva shocks. i also like the sound of the Thunder-Beetle. |

I think eddrick's right with the tyres that might also fit.
Like the ones for the Pajero, Hummer, Wrangler and such. Tamiya 9805561 is even used on the Blazing Star (buggy). Either of these would probably be the cheapest solution for tyres alone. You won't even need the 12mm hexes then... This is the best buy on eBay at the moment : Seidel says 33mm width, 52mm rim diameter and 88mm tyre diameter. Sounds right on target. Finding other ones that match well may not be that easy, since 2.05" rims isn't a very regular size for off road tyres. |

Those tyres in that listing are what's on my Mu (CC01) & yeah the dimensions look right.
The Highlift has the same size rims but the tyres are slightly bigger/chunkier - 37mm wide, 90mm O/D, 52mm rim-O/D You like "Thunder-Beetle", how about "Thunder-dub" or "Terra-dub" (Or Terror-dub!)... I appear to be infected with matt black & body parts again, Edou's fault that is....

I'm quite inspired by the matt black myself. Sorry about the contagiousness.
Now that I think of it, I have a complete set of wheels here that'll fit with 12mm hexes. Those of the Cayenne : The eBay add is just an example of course... I could make a nice price for these - they're NIP. They are a bit smaller though, 26mm width and 78mm outer diameter. But maybe you'd better get an idea of the bigger picture (shell) before you decide on the wheels? Depending on the motor you're using, you could go a bit bigger than what's under the Thunder Shot as well... Btw - I don't think you'll have much of an offset problem when I look at the inside of the rims. |

how about these wheels? i think they should be ok, they pretty much match the dimensions of the thundershot wheels & tyres.

They look cool but you may want to check (ask) if they're actually for a 4WD.
It doesn't say anywhere exactly, although from the lack of any bearing space on the rims it does look that way. If you're running the car with a buggy shell and 12mm hex wheels, the total width and diameter can be a little bigger than what was originally on the car. Especially if you don't use a high revving motor... Rim diameter by itself wouldn't be an issue at all of course. |

if they were for a 4wd car what would be different about them?

If they're a 4WD set, all the rims will have 12mm hexes. What you'd need for a Thunder Shot.
In case of a RWD, the front rims will be running freely and not have a hex hub but just place for a couple of bearings... |

Aaahh right i see, buying wheels is more complicated than i thought.

Tell me about it, I've had my share in that respect. Buying wrong size and such...
But at least I know to look twice now before I click on anything. I'm about 85-95% sure that wheel set is for 4WD but double checking can never hurt. |
