Oil me up :) 12 years 9 months ago #1973

Hopfuly this is an easy question to answer :woohoo:

What at present is the best oil (type) for the Tamiya dampers for vintage Sand-scorcher to vintage FROG etc?
Any links etc would help me and all?

Also best grease and gear box oil also?
Got to the stage of re-builds where needing to lubricate all required equipment and thought i would ask.

Many thanks in advance for any help with this issue/s

I'd go with regular Tamiya damper oil. There's also a choice in hardness :

Tamiya damper oil

Lightwatermodels sold them seperately earlier. I'll see if I can find another link for that...
Cera-grease or Robbe Fett would be the best gearbox lubricant I think :

Tamiya cera grease

For ball diffs good old Tamiya grease will do fine :

Tamiya ball diff grease

I agree with Edou.
A general comment is that the older dampers might be better with thicker oil. Worn shocks will never be as good as they were, but thicker oil might compensate for the internal wear.
Also, the old Scorcher/Rough Rider/Ranger dampers are not very functional anyway...

You can click on the lines (with the green words) in my post and they will link you to an eBay overview... :)
I often forget to go to the right eBay page though so it is the Dutch one. I'll straighten that out...

Many thanks, i found out after i posted, the links are fine as you can retreave the part numbers and search via your own E-bay country :woohoo:

Great info as always, many thanks again,

Any time of course. The links are now eBay.co.uk... ;)

If I understand this correctly, Lars is advising the "hard" damper oil :

Tamiya damper oil hard
