A very quick "how to" on making your own 1969 - 1982 California License Plates for use on Scorchers, sand rovers etc:

The correct(ish) font is "Penitentiary Gothic", but personally I'm a bit too tight to pay for it, so I cheated & used the "customize" button at licenseplates.tv ...

enter your text,

press the "print screen" button on your keyboard'

paste the image into your graphics app (I use Paint Shop Pro 5),

cut & paste the text from the lower plate into the top (so you get as many drop shadows as possible,

blank off any remaining text & the bolt holes,

crop the image down to just the bit you need,

print off onto white inkjet vinyl (26% of original size),

cut out,

put some clear vinyl on top to protect it, cut out (slightly larger than the plate),

slap on your car


Note: the Acme license plate maker auto resizes to let you produce plates with much longer text - but this means your plates won't be the correct size to fit on Tamiya holders ... it's also a poorer image
