hi
My 6 year old son has been given a 20+ year old boomerang and every time he uses it the thing breaks so I'm avidly hunting spares. currently i need to fix the gearbox as the pot couplings are sliding out and there are a couple of cracks in the plastic housing. Thats how i found myself here hehe www.tamiyabase....ughing.png I've been a plane flyer for years so know my way around R/C. The manual download is invaluable thank you Tamiyabase .. Richard |

Hi Richard - welcome!
Your kid has a great vintage car! Too bad he's not old enough yet to fix it himself. To me fixing the car is part of the fun but of course it can be a hassle finding parts. I think the manual could help you out a lot. It's much easier having parts numbers. And if I'm not mistaken you could also use the parts from the rerelease... That has a different manual and parts numbers though. And it's not vintage! I'm sure that if you are having trouble with it, people here will help you out if they can. Good luck with it anyway! |

Welcome Richard.
You're son is quite lucky to have been given a Boomer! Could turn into an expensive hobby if he breaks something every run! What do you mean by 'pot coupling'? My Boomer will be here next week hopefully, I'm looking forward to it! |

hiya
thanks for the welcome, he's getting a little frustrated as we've been having a few problems. First run the rear wishbones broke so i got some new ones, then the old batteries were duff so i got some new batteries and both of them literally caught fire when charging EEK ! so i got another pair of batts. Now the rear drive coupling or gearbox joint as the manual calls it ( i call it pot coupling as it looks like a mini pot joint )comes out of the gearbox case and the rear wheels stop driving. now on order is a set of ball bearings hoping to cure the worn gearbox case bearing E11 a new gearbox case, a new set of inner and outer gearbox joints for the rear, actually i ordered 2 sets by mistake OOPS! a set of 4mm clips to hold the new grbox joints in the bearings and some gearbox bevel gears. hopefully they will all fit together ?? thank god for the manual heheh I do hope this works as it would have been cheaper to by a new boomerang |

For rebuilding the gear box I'd recommend getting a good lubricant also.
That'll make it run as smoothly as possible. Tamiya #87099 - Cera Grease HG is great stuff. Doesn't cost too much on eBay. Hope the repairs go well... Weird story about the batteries catching fire! |

thanks for the advise on grease.
y, those batts were 2500ma but from China. i used my computer charger but i guess 3A charge was too much. new ones are 3800ma and i let them cool before and after charging and at a lower rate too while they are new, i don't want anymore fires. .. Rich |

it could have been worse, at least i was attending the first one when it caught fire
the second was a problem though. I was trying to get my 6 year old to help out with his car a bit so asked him to take the Batt off charge, it shorted and caught fire while he was doing it and he got a tiny tiny burn to his hand but was really frightened more than hurt. |

Sounds like the parts you have ordered will cure your gearbox problems. Some people don't run grease at all in their gearboxes, something which I have recently started doing. I think it just comes down to personal preference. But use it sparingly, too much grease will cause too much resistance, reducing speed and run times. What type batteries were the ones that caught fire? NiCd, NiMh, or LiPo? If they were LiPo, a LiPo capable charger has to be used. Glad your son was ok, I agree, could've been much worse. |
