Kinivo bluetooth handsfree kit 9 years 2 months ago #33581

Been looking for a simple bluetooth kit for the wife's car. We tried the self-contained type with a battery in which work ok so long as you remember to change them up. You also have to remember to switch it off when you get out of the car otherwise it stays connected to your phone.
Then I saw this:

It cost £30 from Amazon and plugs into the aux input of the car stereo with a 3.5mm jack. The round button is context sensitive and has a built in microphone.
It has A2DP so it can stream music via bluetooth.
Installation involves plugging in the cigarette lighter plug, the aux plug, sticking the button to the dashboard and poking the thin wire behind panels.

Just tried this. The wife gave me a call from the car and I can say it works extremely well. I could hear her fine even while she was driving.

Overall:
Pros:
- cheap
- easy to install (and remove if you change the car)
- can use voice control features of the phone (e.g. iPhone Siri)
- music streaming from the phone or Internet music services
Cons:
- requires an aux input on the car stereo
- microphone on the button may not be in the ideal location (separate mic would be better)
- you have to switch the stereo to aux in to answer a call
