Michelin Pilot Escort 12 years 9 months ago #1810

Hi guys,

Does anyone know where I can get a copy of a manual for a Michelin Pilot Escort Item #58125.

I have had this model for 15+ years and thought I would take it out for a spin last weekend but it sounds as though its developed a problem in the gear box, maybe a worn gear?

As I can't find the manual, I'm unsure on disassembly and replacement part numbers.

Thanks

Tamiya USA is still selling it, but you can only buy if you live in USA...

You can also find it on www.ebay.com

I cannot find the manual in my 'database' but it seems to be on a TA02 chassis.
Many cars have been issued with this so (apart from the body) you could also use this manual for example :

58137 Toyota Supra (TA02)

Hope this is useful. ;)

Edit : noticed Lars and I posted simultaneously - this also came from Tamiya USA but from the downloads...

If you should still have trouble solving the problem, you can always post another message about it...
The basics of this car are quite well known to many fans restoring Tamiya and is also similar to other designs.
Even more - the new 58495 Ford F-150 has recently been released using the same chassis!
Parts are still easily available too. Even aftermarket carbon and alloy items. :woohoo:

eBay TA02 search results

Since you're opening the gearbox anyway - putting in some (new) ball bearings would be a great upgrade. ;)

Good luck getting the car running again - it will definitely be worth restoring it! B)

Hi Edou,

Thanks for the tip, i'll get some of those on the order too!

I didn't realise there was so much after market kit you could buy, i think i'll grab a battery too, think my 15 year old battery may be past its best

Thanks

I spent most of my Rc time this year restoring a Manta Ray chassis. Which is also similar to the TA02...
Same surprise here about all the possibilities. Consequence was that I went a little overboard hopping it up!

New battery is a smart move. I'd go for a "good" brand though - these are matched better and have a much longer life span.
Brands like this are : Sanyo, Turnigy, Lrp and a few others. Best not to go for a brand that just looks attractive in price. ;)

Hi Edou,

That looks a very nice setup, must of taken you ages!!

I've opened up the gearbox and it appears to be the spur gear that has signs of wear on it.

Will try and post a picture of my model showing the desperate need of TLC!

Thanks for the message Jonny :)

Thanks - research took a while. Gathering and waiting on the parts too. But building it can go quite fast after that. :cheer:

A picture of your car would be great. Special kind of car, the TA02. Many hardcore fans. B)

If you're gonna replace the spur, you could also get a set of Skyline speed tuned gears.
That will make your car run a little faster (top speed) and is also a nice one piece (all plastic) replacement.
Cost about $11-12 shipping included. :)

eBay Tamiya 53127

Would be nice to get it running again soon. :woohoo:

Btw - you might want to find out what's the cause of the worn out spur - if not normal wear.
Then maybe check if you have the right pinion on your motor or that the motor mount is not crooked or broken...
