SRB Motor mount with 2 pins / which motor fits 3 years 6 months ago #62497

Dear fellow RC Enthusiast,
I am restoring a beautiful SRB chassis. I cannot find a motor that fits, since there are 2 pins and tongue (key?) located in the motor mount that would require a 540 motor with only 2 round shaped "slits" on the front end, whereas all motor I could find have 4 slits.

Any idea which motor could fit and where I would get it?

Thanks and cheers
MetalMaxx

I had no problem installing the 540 size black Sport tuned motor. Hope this helps.

I’ll check mine.
I’d have thought a standard 540 would fit no problem.
But I guess it’s one of those things where you’ve got so many different variations out there.
I’ve had problems in the past with the odd motor being very slightly too wide.

Hi MetalMaxx,

So after taking a couple of gear boxes apart, the first one was a MK1 gear box. It doesn't have that curved tab.
So I went for a Mk2, bingo it's the same as yours.

I think what the issue is that your thinking 2 bolts need to go through the gear box and into the holes on the motor.
But I don't think that is the case.
The plastic case at the back of the motor holds it in.
The instructions ask for 2 10 mm hex bolts, these wouldn't be long enough to go through the metal gear case and have enough thread to hold the motor.

So a standard 540 should fit, but the holes don't line up.

I hope this helps.
