Richard's vintage Kyosho Turbo Ultima 9 months 3 weeks ago #75797

This is my Turbo Ultima which has been living in a box for many years now.
Hopefully I can make a runner out of this.

Bits that needs to be fixed
#Broken front bulkhead and the upper deck.
#Missing shocks, spur gear.
#Front tires are useable.
#Wrong rear tires and wheels (F40 I belive)

Yesterday I 3d printed the front bulkhead which is the main cause this project has been sleeping in a box..

This is the part in question...

Getting somewhere...

The new part seems correct where it counts

Yes it fitted without any trouble at all!
Only had to sand down the hing pin are slightly so the arms would slip on. Rather have it too tight than lots of slope.
Also made some struts for now to replace shocks as I have nothing that will fit this

And how it sits now

Need to get
#Correct rear wheels and tires
#Body and wing.
#Wing stay and mounts.
#Spurgear and cover.
#Front and rear shocks
#Upper radio plate.
#Rear swaybar ends and links
#Front bumper

I have new outlaw rims for it if you want. I sold my outlaw some years ago.

Sadly I don't think those will look good on a buggy.
But for something that need deep dish those are perfect.

Did another print today.
The front bumper. The re-re bumper is available, but the rest of the part tree will be just a parts pile.

Missing the correct counter sunk M4 screws.
Other than that the bumper fitted straigh on

Bumper was printed like this with brim to hold it a bit more firmly and with 100% infill.
This way it also stronger if it has been laid down.
Took 58min to print on fine setting.

I have just ordered a pair of black FRP sheets. Will make my own top deck plate for this.

Found these dampers in my parts bin.
Leaks badly, but with Tamiya O-rings and Associted green slime I think they gonna work.
Bad I only have 90mm ones.

I found 75mm ones of those dampers on ebay so I bought them to make a complete set.
Can't afford to 50-100 bucks on dampers right now.

Now the chassis is starting to be complete, I will soon pull it apart to clean it.

The cheap front dampers came in the mail today.
Color is different from the rear ones. I almost suspected them to be as the rear ones was bought many years ago.
Rear ones has O ring in the preload collar, the new one has not.
I might deanodize the dampers before I complete this built, time will tell..

Out of the package these were only filled with a pair drop of oil that was more like a orange/gold sludge.
I suspect the color is not very good anodized to the aluminium.
The rear one leaked rigt out of the gate so the front one got rebuilt.
O rings were coated in marine grease (do not have green slime atm) and then fitted to the chassis.

The included springs were too stiff so I found some in my parts bin.

I also completed the rear swaybar with parts from the M chassis stabilizer kit I bought a while ago.

Right knuckle arm up front is broken so I need to source that. It is part of the UM-11 part tree.
Next I guess is to make the new upper radio plate which I now have the material to do so (either 1.6 or 2.4mm black GRP).

Found a STL file of the knuckle arm on TThingiverse.
So I printed it and got it installed...

Printed one installed..

Really nice restoration and build log Richard, 3D printing certainly helps these projects :) Looking forward to your progress 👍
If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem mate :)
