Vintage Sand Rover - gears 12 years 11 months ago #1340

Hi all

I have a vintage Sand Rover for which the gears (esp middle gear) appear to wear out within about 2 hours of use. Anyone have any ideas as to where I can find a stockist or an alternative to the plastic gears?

Thanks for your help

If the gears are wearing out after 2 hours of use, I suggest you look closer at the gearbox. Sounds to me like something is not installed correctly or something else is worn. Or if that is the gear which the motor runs on, then maybe the motor is adjusted too close to the gear.( the mesh is too tight.)

Or you may have the wrong pitch pinon

I have just recieved a Holiday Buggy, the gears seem worn so will be making sure I get spares & a new motor pinion too... Whats the size to get for the 380 motor (pitch, shaft etc...)???

Correct me if I'm wrong but the type of motor shouldn't matter for the shaft size. Only if you have the wrong motor. ;)
Original kit came with a 15 and 18 teeth pinion. According to Hot Racing it should be 48 pitch.
I see there's a variety of possible # of teeth though...

Ok mate thanks :-)

The only motors that seem to be listed on Ebay are for the Grasshopper etc...

Cool B)

So to just clarify... that motor & these =644]pinions, well the 48dp 15 & 18 tooth ones will be ok.

As far as I can see, I can confirm that...
Don't even think you would be limited by these two teeth numbers but that is the original set up.
The bigger pinion will give you a bit more top speed.

Good luck with the build! :)
