Now that I'm have my motor on order the next thing I want to do is get some new wheels and tires for my Tamiya Thunder Dragon. The tires are almost worn out but I don't think I'll be able to find replacement tires anymore. So will wheels from other buggies made by HPI, Losi, or Traxxas fit? I took one wheel off and it did not use a hex wheel hub which is what all my other cars use. So I am not sure if its possible to get other wheels to fit. I've seen some other vintage Tamiya buggies with some nice aluminum wheels on them but I haven't been able to find those anywhere.

The TD wheel adapter is quite specific so other wheels will not fit without adjustment.
Only thing that would really be needed is some (generic) 12mm hex wheel adapters but they will have to fit of course.
If the shaft will not match the hole in the wheel axle, you could get some with grub screws.
Second thing to pay attention to is that the wheel axles are long enough (and sticking out) to mount the wheel.
This could be solved by "short" hex hubs (they have different sizes in thickness) or longer wheel axles...

Edit : looks like the Bear Hawk for example uses the same wheel axles but the regular 12mm hex adapters.
Which is very promising for an easy solution. :)

I could not find hex adapters from the Bear Hawk but I did find these hex adapters on ebay. I think these should work but I guess only one way to find out and that's to order a set to try.

I'm quite sure these will fit. Worth a try at least. :cheer:

Prefer the adapters with the extra grub screw myself though.
When you take the wheels off, these will stay on. Avoiding the risk of losing the little shaft...

Thanks for the offer but I already bought a new set of HPI wheels and Pro-line tires. The funny thing is I also just found a brand new set of tires that my dad bought when we bought the kit several years ago.

Pro-Line is an awesome brand. Which tyres did you get?

I bought the Pro-line Hole Shot tires. I think they have too much grip on the road though and I'm constantly flipping my car over now if I make a turn without slowing down enough.

There is no such thing as "too much grip"
I use these myself on my TRF501x. They perform best on hard packed dirt tracks.
