Just messing around with my Bronco body:

I might use this body in the mean time while I finish off the Pajero.

This is the idea I was going for with this body.

F350 nudge bar, and roll bars. I think it looks quite cool.

Well I had to remove the rear end.

As you can see, it looked more like a Pajero that was hacked apart, than a Pajero pick-up. So I cut and removed the remaining section of the tailgate, to make way for the pick-up tailgate.

A little bit more progress for tonight:

Installing the bed

First skin of the tailgate

Filling in of the odd shapes

Not looking too bad. Needs filling, sanding, priming - filling, sanding, priming. JR knows all about that... ;)

Some stuff on order:

Bearing set for the CC-01 Chassis

HPI gear reduction unit

Hop-up steering

CVDs

Those few things should be here in about 14 days. In that time, I'll get as far as I can with the body shell.

Got a few mods to add to this chassis. Mods I have done on my old CC-01 Pajero, that made it a very competitive crawler. But till then - body work :S

Re: Tamiya CC-01 Pajero rebuild 12 years 1 month ago #7820

This is meant as constructive criticism, LB - so I hope you take it as such :)

I've held off responding to the pics you posted as I felt something was wrong, but couldn't quite put my finger on it - but I realised that although the previous owner made a very shoddy job, he did get something right - the line of the top of the flat bed lines up pretty closely with the line of the top of the door - which makes it look like it could have come out of the factory that way ... well, if you squint hard enough  Take a look at the Pajero Wheelie/Montero for example.

Now you've got the flat bed at the right height, the surround/rear wings/tailgate all look too low to me - they're a long way below the line of the door.

Ultimately, I think the "believability" of the shell will rest on how you paint it - if you're going for a shiny, "factory" looking colour (dark blue, black, burgundy, white, etc) it's not going to look "right" unless you lift the side of the bed by quite a lot.

On the other hand, if you go for a matt, weathered look (red oxide primer with maybe one mismatched door?) & fill the bed up (spare wheel, rollcage of some description) it'll "work". If you want to go shiny, then I think it'll work if you go for a colour that Mitsubishi would never in a million years think about putting on it - bright metallic red or medium metallic blue would suit - yellow, orange, lime green etc might need a photoshop test before you commit yourself :D

Thanks JR, I did notice that myself. But this body is so wasted, in terms of just the way it was cut, and all the paint stripping I had to do, That I've ordered a new shell with which I am going to cut it properly, and make a good, well balanced "Pajero Pick-up"

Kind of like this:
