I think making in longer & bending/curling the front edge to match the bumper might have looked better, holes too, like a smaller number of larger ones (a la old Tamiya pressed alloy chassis). How about a "machine turned" finish like we used to do in metalwork at school?

We used to put a piece of wooden dowel in a pillar drill and bring it down on the surface of the metal, moving the metal a bit between each one. Can't remember if we used any grinding paste or similar though.
