Yeah, bummer. It didn't even drive yet. :S
But it's a chance to do some more modding - and keeping this thread alive!

Resistor plate stay cut out (no use with an ESC and looks nicer), screws through the ends and a piece of FRP in between :

Not a perfect solution (I may go for CVAs later) but definitely solid and functional! :cheer:

Because the screws are under a slight angle, I had to widen the eye of the shocks a bit.
With a shell adapted for Hornet shocks, it just fits and is free enough to move...
The setup is a bit less vertical like this (giving more rotation) but the motor luckily still clears the axle dampers.
By about a few nanometer, that is.

Since I have an FRP sheet of 1mm as well, I am tempted to redo the servo plate.
That single millimeter of lowering could actually make a difference...
It would mean a bigger range for adjustment.
Anything other than toe in (good in itself) is giving some clearance issues with the tie rods on the chassis.

Ah yes... looking at this picture again, I realise I needed a better countersunk tool (angle-wise).

:)

Man, I forgot I had those particular neck muscles. :S
Shell needs a lot of sanding (down) so the fiberglass reinforcement isn't in the way of the servo.
I know it should fit 'cause the other body from my original Hopper has no clearance issue.
This one does (call it patina, lol) :

Who would guess several days of labour went into this one already?

Just a reminder :

 Edou What do you think about the academy chassis?? My scorcher has the academy version of the grasshopper.

From what I know, they're just as good as the chassis they copied. ;)

My neck is better. Now I just need to find my fingertips. :S
Lots and lots of sanding and still there's a bit of a gap between the body and chassis.
So next step - 'adjusting' the servo stays. Curvature of the nose makes that the bottleneck.
Almost there now! Also slapped some random silver I had lying around on the shell.
Purpose is to hit some cobblestones soon and see how that rear suspension handles.

:cheer:

Also smuggled in another millimeter by putting the servo to the lowest possible position.
Maybe that'll influence freedom of toe adjustment a bit...
They really did design it all with minimal tolerances.

Wow, it actually does make a difference.
After a crazy amount of time spent on the front setup and this high torque servo saver I'm actually happy with it for the first time! Perfect, as far as that goes for any Grasshopper. Pics to follow.

I think I'll go with some minor bending to make the shell fit for now.
More twists (in a non material way) to come on that subject.

A small step for mankind, a big step for my sandpaper reserves...

Before :

After :

Any tips on sanding weird corners? :)

A good basic stance it is (looks a bit toe out on the picture but it's nicely neutral) :
