Back to this project...
First I had to clean my workbench as it was a mess. Good enough First I sanded most of the extra epoxy away, then cut out the damaged hump in front of driver and also the bit at the side over the battery area. The hump on top pf the chassis got a bit of styrene and the side got a bit from the spare rear part of the upper chassis glued in and sanded. I use JConcepts tire glue and baking soda as a activator (helps a lot!!) In my case it's Dr. Oetker Bikarbonat Natron During sanding the styrene bit I got a bit carried away and happen to dremel down the bodypost in the process. Can someone measure for me how tall the body post stay is from the flat surface? You can also spot I do miss the antenna holder for the right side. My plan is to first replace the missing flat part as I've done, then graft the antenne holder from the spare upper chassis to this. This is mainly down to I don't have the correct size styrene in stock atm, and I think I can get away with cut off the orginal holder from the spare bits. A test fit I will avoid sanding down all the way to the letters on the chassis. Up to now I have mainly used 240 grit paper, but will go over to finer grit and fill the remaining cracks with filler. Only thing I have right now is Tamiya putty, it shrinks too much for my liking. I do have fine Milliput tho.. Hmmm For this rebuild, the chassis will take most of the time I reckon..

Todays progress...
A bit more sanding and I made the missing antenna holder. Cut out the one from the spare chassis top. The metal antenna is the only one I got atm. Need to buy another one. And I finished painting my driver today. I really suck at this, even with magnifying glass, which did not help at all as I lost the depth of my vision when trying to paint. Shaking my hands don't help either. I may cover the body in flat clear as the colors is straight out of the bottles. I really need a new camera too. It tends to white out everything and make it a tad blury in every program. Camera was new in 2011 and must have taken 4-5k pictures, so for £180 or so, I think it has been good value for the money

Thanks Andy! Just the tip I needed! Do you paint the flesh first or the white? |
