Hi Guys - thanks for all the info - you are a mine of information!
The aluminium motor mount is about to be ordered anyway as the plastic one just broke last week... I'll have a look at the motor stuff... Btw, Mad Bulls are really tough. I certainly recommend this car for reckless kids. My son's friend ran over it with his bike (by accident) some time ago and all that broke was the roof pillars! I fitted some spiked Tamiya tyres on the Blazing star, so its usually run with those on. I'll take a picture when it's in one piece again. |

the aloy motor mount is a really efficient hop up. for the pinion gear, the stock tamiya is enough. For the mad bull, stock 540 is largely enough or a lightly modified like sport tuned or a small M&Y. |

No, absolutely no.
The stock Tamiya pinion gear is the worse thing you can keep on the car, especially with a 13 turns motor. Another thing you need absolutely is a rear ball differential. The rear gear differential doesn't slip so all the motor torque is loaded on the gears. The gears are strong enough to manage all this power but not the top gear cover. With the rear ball differential you will have a better handling car and the ball differential has a limited slip that protects the gears and the gear cover. Have a look at this page, especially the last picture. www.tamiyaclub....6245&id=24 As you can see I made a brace for lower arms, added a brace at the damper tower and (the most important) added a nut at the damper tower mount. This nut is not necessary to keep the damper tower in place but to keep the top gear cover down. You must do these things if you wanna avoid breakages in the rear end. Obviously the car must be full ball raced. Max

Nice Manta Ray! That carbon shaft's just lovely.
An example of too move force on the rear idler gear of a DF-01, deforming the gear cover : With a nice little bracket to solve the issue : Can't hurt to fit as a precaution either... I would only run a car with a hard steel pinion myself nowadays. Robinson make an array that'll fit. And Carson as well if I'm not mistaken... |

I used a 12T on my Manta but the car you see in the picture is made all with spare old used parts.

Paul, I have a 17T Lrp motor in my DF-01 that has about 185W and should be around the limit for the car.
My Humvee went pretty fast already with it's 23T smaller brother and normal gearing... So making a "sensible" choice will bring a lot of fun already. Great about this car is that you have a lot of pinion options. Stingray, it is indeed from my Humvee. Really have to finish it... |

Edou, 17T is not the limit. I've seen Top Forces with 10T motors...

On My TA02, the 12t was very fast but now I have a 17T. Longer run and good speed. I needed the 12T for my XPRESS
