Glad to see you're going to paint the white panels rather than use aa re-re decal set ... but conventional wisdom says you should spray lighter colours first...

Just be careful how much white you put on it one hit, I hate spraying white as it never looks like there's enough on, then suddendly it's running everywhere :S

Well i totally agree with you Jonny that i should have painted the lighter colours first  I think i was too excited to start this restore and forgot about the wisdom :S
I want to keep this RR as vintage as possible and using re-re decals would be much faster and the easiest solution but I would have that strange feeling I've "cheated" on my Rough Rider. It deserves painting the white panels in order to keep it vintage even if it's a lot work.

Thank you, i'll keep that in mind :y:

That's confused me, are the white panels supposed to be decals then?
I just masked & painted mine... (White base first then masked & did blue bits)

I'd say they are "supposed" to be paint, but on the Buggery Champ re-re, they're decals:

Ah, makes sense when I read it back now, ta.
I don't like decals, never have, particularly big ones. As a kid the first thing I used to do with a new toy was to pull the stickers off! They make the model look untidy when they start peeling & dog-earing

Hello,

After almost 5 hours masking, taking the tape off and masking again i finally managed to apply the white coat on the side pannels.
The weather wasn't that good for spraying but since i installed a small radiator in my garage i have excellent spaying conditions in there :woohoo:

The masking job :

Masking the nose in order to make the lines

Masking the rest of the body with black masking tape (easier to remove and less glue left over)

After removing my self made masking sheet

First coat of white primer

Time for the white paint !

After a few hours drying time, it's time to remove the masking tape and see the result

It looks pretty nice but it still need a bit of work to make it look perfect. I need to polish it to remove the masking tape glue left over's, sand a bit the paint that ran on some places (check the front picture) and sand a little bit the edges to make them more "smooth"

Nice work  are you going to clear before or after decals?

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem mate :)

Hi Andy,

I usually apply one coat before and 2 or 3 after the decals.
